Ambrose Akinmusire is one of today’s most aspiring trumpet players with the potential of becoming a real jazz superstar. He grew up in Oakland as the son of Nigerian parents. In Steve Coleman he found an early support und he said once that Clifford Brown is one of his most influential role models. His style portfolio is pretty wide spread; amongst traditional ballades there are also relations to Fusion and other elements. While respecting and keeping the tradition he continuously comes up with something new, fresh and innovative. As band leaders are supposed to, he knows how to lead his band creatively as well as one stage and maintain a decent tension that catches attention while performing live.
Although, he’s still quite young his achievements so far speak for themselves:
