brief information Aurelio AURELIO is acclaimed as a central figure in the recent resurgence of the Garifuna´s music, a unique Afro-American community who’s culturally threatened population lives primarily along the Caribbean coasts of Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Declared by UNESCO as World Heritage, the Garifuna music presents a century old fusion between the West African and the Central American rhythms and harmonies that is worldwide unique.
Aurelio took the legacy of the great Andy Palacio and is at this moment the biggest Garifuna ambassador. His debut album “Garifuna Soul” received already critical acclaim worldwide, being elected by AfroPop as the best Newcomer of the year 2004. Aurelio was featured in 2007 on the album, Watina, from Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective. This album proved to be the international breakthrough project for Garifuna music in general reaching the No. 1 on the world music charts in Europe before going on to win numerous international awards.
On the 14th February 2011 Aurelio will release worldwide his second studio album “Laru Beya” with the prestigious label Real World (it will be a prior-ranking release for the label so we expect a good media coverage), do a presentation tour around Europe in May/June and come back for summer festivals in July/August and again end of October till mid November 2011.
Aurelio had in 2008 an amazing performance at the WOMEX official showcase program. Shortly after that he collaborated together with Afro-Pop Star Youssou N´Dour for a whole year as part of the renown Rolex Arts Initiative, which included a successful live concert with both artists in the Union Chapel London. Aurelio went as well to Dakar with Youssou N´Dour in order to record some music for his new album. You can check a short but very beautiful EPK about this amazing trip here. Due to the good feedback after his WOMEX showcase he came twice to Europe in 2010 and played main slots already at some really nice World Music festivals in Scandinavia, GAS and BeNeLux (including e.g. Roskilde Festival, TFF Rudolstadt Festival on main stage in front of many thousand people) even without a new album.
The new album is extremely beautiful and it has been produced by Ivan Duran who’s past productions (Umalali and Andy Palacio´s memorable “Wátina”) reached the No. 1 of the European World Music Charts. Aurelio is an extremely talented singer, composer and guitar player mixing the richness of African and Caribbean melodies in his compositions like nobody else. His live shows count with some of the best Garifuna musicians on stage in order to present to European audiences a truly unique danceable though soulful musical experience! Garifuna culture is usually very interesting for press because of their particular and rich background story, so normally you can count on good press coverage for his concerts in magazines and media.
Due to the unique mixture of roots (African and Latin), we can recommend you the artist for mixed world music festivals but as well for festivals with an Africa or Latin/Caribbean focus. With the new record and the new live show this project is even stronger than before and the charismatic and soulful live performances of Aurelio will move the hearts and feet of your audiences!
