Despite the young formation of Bajofondo, the band has already gained great international recognition and success. During the past years, they played in renowned clubs and theatres from London to New York as well as at famous European jazz, rock and world music festivals.
Bajofondo is a group formed by extraordinary musicians from both sides of the Rio de la Plata (Argentina and Uruguay), combining a filigree and fascinating new mixture of electronic and tango. Their concerts are unique, musical experiences which are supported by video projections from one of the best VJs from Argentina.
In 2003, their first album (which became platinum in Argentina soon after its release) won Argentina's most presti-gious music award, the ‘Premio Gardel’, for Best Electronic Album of the year and shortly after that a Latin Grammy for the ‘Best Pop Instrumental Album’. With their second album “Bajofondo Tango Club: presenting Supervielle” (Universal/Surco, 2005), the exceptional programmer, producer, and keyboarder Supervielle was nominated for the MTV music awards 2005 in the category “Best Artist of the Year”. In 2006, Gustavo Santaolalla, bandleader, producer and master mind of the band, won a Golden Globe and the Oscar in the category ‘Best song’ and ‘Best original music score’ for Brokeback Mountain. In 2007 he won another (!) Oscar for the film music of the blockbuster Babel.
In the years from 2006-2009, the group played, besides many festivals in the US and Asia, numerous tours in Europe (i.e.: Roskilde, North Sea Jazz, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Oslo World Music Festival, Enjoy Jazz, San Sebastián, Nice etc.) as well as tours in Germany, Eastern Europe, Italy, UK and many more.
After three excellent studio albums and numerous successful live shows, there will be a new line up of the band available for live shows in June/July 2010: The Bajofondo REMIXED project will be featured – in a more club orientated way and a reduced line up. Bajofondo remix their own songs with DJs and live musicians! This project will be a available exclusively in summer 2010!
