At the age of six Edson Cordeiro started singing at a local church choir in Sao Paulo. Early people started to speak of his voice as a miracle and when Brazilian press got an eye on him, they fast labelled him “kult singer” – spot on for an artist that multifaceted who is able to mix opera, jazz, funk, rock and samba music with an amazing easiness and sing that potpourri in no less than 5 different languages.
After already giving concerts in Brazil in front of over 200.000 people in total, he attracted the attention of Sony Music, which released Edsons first album containing songs of Mozart, Nina Hagen, Prince and Janis Joplin.
Fast Edson got booked by some of the finest festivals of Europe, such as e.g. Montreux Jazz Festival and German press celebrated Edson for being “the 8th wonder of the world”. In the course of his tour through Europe in 1995 German newspaper “die Welt” wrote: “It was not only a concert. It was the presentation of an entertainer, of a fantastic vocal acrobat, of a limitless singer - and of a talented humorist.”
After a 3-albums-series containing Disco hits of the 70s and a tour all over Europe, where he sang flamenco, jazz, gospel and rock and played 6 days in a row at Berlins “Tipi – das Zelt am Kanzleramt”, Edsons album “Contratenor” got nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best Classic Album” in 2005. This was followed by shows in all Europe such as at German television or at the sold out Södra Theatre at Stockholm. In 2011 Edson returns to his roots and amazes besides his projects “My Collection” and “Disco Lounge” (with German Klazz Brothers) with his new program “Samba Deluxe”. In his own Edson Cordeiro style, of course!
