Jorge Drexler is a poet and a singer, a composer and a visionary. Since he was discovered in 1994 by one of the most respected spanish artists, Joaquín Sabina, he has become himself more and more a reference for other musicians. Therefore, his songs have been recorded by well known artists as Neneh Cherry, Lorenzo Jovanotti, Rosario Flores or Ketama. Drexler´s very unique style of fusionating with an astonishing naturalness traditional folkloric rhythms with the most modern electronic techniques, has granted him well deserved international recognition: his fourth album "Sea" was nominated 2001 for the Latin Grammy Awards as well as for the MTV Latin Awards and voted under the 10 Best albums of the year by the prestigious magazine Rolling Stone in Argentina. Parallel to his own records he has collaborated succesfully with many other artists as it was the case with Bajofondo Tango club in 2003. Drexler co-wrote for this excellent argentinan group the song "Perfume", which won, not only a Premio Gardel (the most prestigious music award in Argentina) but also a Latin Grammy. Since the release of his last record until today "ECO", Drexler has been touring extensively through Spain, Uruguay, Brasil, USA, Mexico most of the times in sold out venues. His versatile music style fits in a very wide range of venues having performed in this last year i.e. in theaters, auditoriums as well as world music- and jazzfestivals. His collaborating musical activities have brought him 2005 the ultimate confirmation of his enormous talent: Drexler has been awarded with the Oscar in the category "Best Song" for the piece "Al otro lado del río" which he wrote for the soundtrack of the film "The Motorcycle diary". It is the first time in the Oscar´s history that the Academy grants this award for a song written in spanish language! The success of ECO together with the mentioned awards led at the beginning of 2005 to a reedition of Drexler´s last album. The new version is called "ECO2" and includes all the songs from the prior version plus the Oscar awarded "Al otro lado del río" and two new songs with lyrics taken from Pablo Neruda´s poems. The second part of the ECO2 is a DVD that includes a live concert of Drexler playing all the songs from ECO for a sold out theatre in the prestigious Teatro Solís de Montevideo. Last news: Grammy nomination 2006 in the category "Best latin pop album". Jorge Drexler will release his next album in autumn 2006 and is going to present his work for the first time to the european audiences!
