Jorge Drexler is a poet, singer, composer and a highly talented guitar player. Drexler’s very unique style of mixing traditional folkloric Latin-American rhythms with the most modern electronic samplers and jazz harmonies with an astonishing naturalness, has earned him well deserved international recognition:
In 2001 his album “Sea” was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards as well as for the MTV Latin Awards and was voted one of the 10 best albums of the year by the prestigious Rolling Stone Magazine in Argentina.
In 2003 the song “Perfume”, which he co-wrote with Bajofondo Tango Club, won a Premio Gardel (the most prestigious music award in Argentina) and a Latin Grammy. In 2004, Drexler`s album “ECO” was nominated for a Latin Grammy. In 2005 he won with his song “Al otro lado del río” the Oscar in the category “Best Song” for the film “The Motorcycle diaries”. It was the first time in the Oscar´s history that the Academy granted this award for a song written in a language other than English!!
In 2006 he was nominated in the category “Best Latin pop album” for the Grammy. The multiple nominations and finally the Oscar spread the word about Drexlers music, and so he started to tour very successfully new territories from USA to South America most of the times in sold out venues. Performing in theatres, auditoriums as well as world music and jazz festivals, he proved many times that his versatile music style suits a very wide range of events.
His album “Cara B” was released in 2008 - a wonderful live album in which he has recorded 30 of his most famous songs and some new solo pieces with his guitar and some sampling machines. Truly a fascinating and diverse album which was again nominated for a Grammy. In 2010, his 6th studio album will be released at Warner. Without a doubt, Drexler has developed in to one of the most influencing Spanish/ Latin American singers/songwriters.
