A prestigious German newspaper recently stated the following about this new rising-star from Spain: “He belongs without any doubt to the biggest new arrivals in Flamenco music since decades. Born in the Andalusian city of Huelva as part of a three generation Flamenco dynasty, he has managed to melt this style perfectly with black American music. Some of his biggest influences besides the great traditional Flamenco singers are Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. He has already performed together with Alicia Keys – the black American soul music melted with the energetic but somehow painful music of the south of Spain”. Also the guitar legend Eric Clapton recently invited Pitingo to the USA to record a song with him.
According to Pitingo: „It is not about changing Flamenco, it is about giving to this music a new colour.” In Spain, it is exactly due to his adventurous vision of music that he is considered to be one of the most original singers of his generation. He has specially achieved to bring Flamenco closer to younger people and to audiences that weren’t that familiar with this century-old music. Pitingo presents a very special type of fusion, mixing the purest traditional side of Flamenco with Pop, Soul and Gospel. His concerts offer the audience a very diversified programme: from a capella old Flamenco songs to versions of classics from i.e. Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Police, Ray Charles or Nirvana together with his Gospelchoir and Flamenco Band,. His second album „Souleria“ achieved platinum (over 100.000) in Spain a half year after its release in May 2008, and his live concerts usually end only after several encores and standing ovations!
In October 2008 Pitingo achieved the amazing feat. of selling out the 850 seats of the legendary “Teatro Calderon Madrid” 6 weeks in a row!!! His show is filled with energy and emotion, a big, unique and mesmerizing feast. Finally in 2010 the rest of Europe will be able to experience live Pitingo’s unique show, as he will be available for concerts all year around.
