Soha, with her beautiful black curly hair and big eyes, has finally made it! Her first Album is in stores: “D’ici et d’ailleur” is the name and she tells us tales of here and there. Made with a high dosage of love and dedication, you can consider it as Reggae or even Cuban music album. One thing is for sure though, Soha’s voice is amazing! She has the voice of a Soul singer, but she also has no problems with Rap, which she does extremely well.
The album is a melting pot of cultures. Born in Marseille, Soha is the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. Her parents are Algerian and her ancestors were nomads. This portrays her spirit perfectly, a spirit that is in constant pursuit of happiness and independence.
At a given point of her life, Soha fell in love with the music coming from Cuba. She listened to lots of artists from the 30’s and 50’s, who influenced her greatly and later also her music.
Her artist’s name derives from the Jamaican patois “So wah?”, which translated to French would result in something like “Et Alors?” and in German like “Und nun?” or “Also was?”. The name represents Soha’s wilfulness and strong personality and that she always has something to say. She fought hard to get her record contract, and quitting has never crossed her mind. She has now fulfilled herself in her music.
Soha’s debut album sold over 100,000 copies in France and she played in the sold-out “Olympia”. Her talent and her hard work were rewarded with a nomination for the most important French music prize “Victoires de la musique”. Her album “D’ici et d’ailleurs” also received positive press in Germany. She was represented on many Radio stations with her single “Tourbillon”, amongst others on Radio 1 and SWR 3 in the daily rotation.
Soha has had great live success in Germany and in Switzerland. Her first club-tour in February was a huge success with full, often sold-out rooms of 400-800 spectators. In summer a superb festival performance followed, which left happy spectators, satisfied promoters and enthusiastic journalists in its wake. Soha is currently preparing her new album, which should be released in Spring 2010. She will be ready for festivals again in the summer and the club-tour will follow in Autumn.
