Soname was born in the Tibetan countryside and was of noble descent. At the age of sixteen she fled with a group of monks across the Himalayas - a difficult and dangerous journey.
She finally arrived in Dharamsala, Northern India, where HH Dalai Lama has his home in exile. After six years she travelled to England (via France) where she has lived ever since.
Having been discovered at the wedding of a former Sex Pistol singer she made her concert debut at the Royal Opera House in London in 2003.
In 2004 she performed for H.H. The Dalai Lama at Usher Hall in Edinburgh. She continued to take the UK by storm, appearing at festivals like Glastonbury, Musicport in Whitby, World Sacred Music Festival and Komedia in Brighton, and with the likes of Asian Dub Foundation and Zero 7 at venues like London Scala, Astoria and Brighton Concorde. Performing across the world at the Woodford Folk Festival Australia 2008, in Venezuela, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Iceland and Slovenia she enthralled every audience along the way with her music and her message.
Her music has been celebrated in 2006, 2007 and 2010 at the Cinema for Peace Gala in cooperation with Amnesty International and the Human Rights Film Network at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Now she lives as a "Cultural Ambassador" and "Voice of Tibet" (Der Spiegel, Germany) as a celebrated singer in London performing with musicians from all over the world. Her voice, full of upper and undertones, is always at the very centre of the performance, decorated with delicate stringed instruments and the gentle rhythms of the tabla.
Soname’s singing is deeply spiritual, like pure medicine for the soul. Each concert is a stunning paean to her homeland and an experience full of depth and beauty. Her songs reflect different styles including both powerful mountain songs, and songs with a spiritual influence. She sings of animals and plants, rivers and mountains of her former homeland.
The haunting passion of Soname’s performance reflects the joy and beauty of the Tibetan landscape and spiritual atonement, enchanting audiences on every level.
