Tango Crash is a contemporary tango project that can be included in the widely known “electro-tango” movement. But this time we are facing a more radical and maybe more authentic musical approach to this genre: Tango Crash looks less into the mainstream dance floors and more into world music and jazz audiences.
Overall we have in front of us a highly original mixture of pure tango with blends of jazzful improvisation underlined by contemporary electronic music. It’s a nice balance: Sometimes the danceful and elegant beats dominate the compositions and make clear that Tango Crash is an urban-touched project of the 21st globalized century, and sometimes you can clearly hear how they explore the more obscure and deep ground of the tango itself in its full complexity.
Their lyrics, written in a contemporary Buenos Aires colloquial style, transform the sorrow and misfortunes of life and love affairs into tango melodic lines and words, sometimes using the well-known Argentinean irony, sometimes the characteristic mourning.
Tango Crash is a versatile quintet based in Europe and co-led by the two Argentinean masterminds Almada and Ianacconne, who started the group’s musical career around 2003. Tango Crash has played in several relevant festivals over the years and has released three studio albums (Galileo). Their latest album, “Bailá Querida,” got very good reviews, winning the German record critic award of the quarter year. Tango Crash is currently working on material for a new CD that is planned to be released around the end of 2011/beginning of 2012.
