Latin Grammy Nominations for F-Cat artists!
The nominations for the Annual 11th Latin Grammy Awards have been announced on September 8th and we were pleased to learn that four of our artists received a nomination in several categories!
The fantastic singer/songwriter JORGE DREXLER leads the field of contenders with four nominations! Amongst others in the categories “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year”. Drexler’s very unique style of mixing traditional folkloric Latin-American rhythms with the modern pop and jazz harmonies with an astonishing naturalness has earned him well deserved international recognition. He even made Academy Award history in 2005 by becoming the first to win an Oscar for a Spanish-language song with his beautiful composition “Al Otro Lado del Rio”. If by some chance you are in New York City next January, you should definitely not miss his concert in the legendary Carnegie Hall. On stage it will just be him and his guitar…this is all Drexler needs to fill one of the world´s most legendary venues.
Spanish singer BUIKA, who is considered as the new star of flamenco music in her homeland, received a greatly deserved nomination in the category “Best Traditional Tropical Album” for her last record „El Último Trago“ which features pianist legend Chucho Valdés. Buika makes audiences speechless with her very special aura on stage and with her unique voice – broken, dark though powerful and fearless.
Of course, we are also very proud of the lovely Brazilian singer CÉU , who was nominated in the prestigious category “Best Brazilian Pop Album” for her second excellent record “Vagarosa”. Since 2007, the 29 year old woman from São Paulo has been outstripping all the superstars of her country with her mix of samba-poetry, triphop and electronica. Céu toured through the US in 2009 and 2010 with remarkable festivals such as Coachella. She played also various festivals this summer in Europe and it was a huge success. Next tours to come in 2011.
Last but not least, let us celebrate the two nominations of GILBERTO GIL , who is probably the biggest musician in Brazil. The 67 year old beloved figure has already been active in the music scene for over 46 years. Gil forged his own music, by joining rock, reggae, funk and rhythms from Bahia together and writing diverse texts about the varied yet not always beautiful reality of the world. This masterful style has made him into one of the most brilliant Brazilian composers and lyricists. In March 2011 Gilberto Gil will play “The Strings Concert”, an acoustic concert in the trio with the famous musician and artist Jacques Morelenbaum and Ben Gil, Gilberto’s son! We are looking forward to it!
The Latin Grammy Awards will be held on November 11th in Las Vegas and broadcast live by Univision and on www.latingrammy.com . Keep your fingers crossed!
