Womex loves F-Cat, F-Cat loves Womex!
Womex is always a lot of fun. But it’s also good business: we had 4 fantastic showcases, a full meeting schedule, many interesting visitors at our booth, furthermore the Womex award to our artist Andy Palacio and several nominations for the BBC 3 World Music Awards – we are very happy about this year’s Womex. It’s been a pleasure to see you again. Thank you for your interest!
Bajofondo Tango Club finished the first night on Thursday, and the audience was amazed to see this elegant electro-tango presented by such excellent musicians. On Friday the young La Shica came up with her fresh flamenco hip hop - very stylish, very good! On Saturday everybody fell in love with Mayra Andrade, the beautiful new voice from Cape Verde (actually we've received about 5 concert offers so far, but at least 10 wedding proposals!). And on the final Sunday, Andy Palacio received the prestigious Womex Award (together with his very sympathetic producer Ivan Duran) and presented a showcase with his Garifuna Collective feat. the Umalali Women's choir.
At the final Womex ceremony were also revealed the nominations for the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, and again some of our artists are at the list: Andy Palacio & The Garifuna Collective, Bajofondo Tango Club, Mayra Andrade, The Idan Raichel Project (Weblink Nominees).
And finally, another award, non-official but certainly well appreciated: according to many colleagues (and experts) our booking assistant Linda was elected the most beautiful and diligent Womex delegate. And senior booking agent Amaya was the nicest one, yet extremely busy! Well deserved! Thank you my Ladies!

The Berlin Songwriter and singer Celine Rudolph and the Norwegian composer, trombone player and musical director of the “Ensemble Denada,” Helge Sunde, belong to the lucky award winners of the first Echo Jazz awards. Sunde has won in the category ‘Best Big-Band album of the year’ with his amazing new record “Finding Nymo”. Rudolph will receive the award as ‘Best national female singer’. Angelique Kidjo won her 4th Grammy in the categorie “Best Contemporary World Music Album“.
Also at the BBC 2008 F-Cat artists won:
Mayra Andrade won the award for “best newcomer” with her debut album.
Andy Palacio who passed away this january won in the categorie “Americas” the award for the “Best album of the year” with his Garifuna Collective.
